"In his book “Elastic – Flexible Thinking in the Age of Change” Leonard Mlodinow defines the concept of “Flexible Thinking” in detail. Flexible thinking according to Mlodinov:
Giving up comfortable thoughts and getting used to ambiguity and contradiction
Being able to rise above traditional ways of thinking and re-evaluate the questions we ask
Being able to abandon our chronic assumptions and open ourselves to new paradigms
Don't rely on your imagination as well as logic
Tendency to generate and integrate a wide range of ideas
It also means having the will to try and tolerating failure.
SO WHAT CAN HELP US TO INCLUDE “FLEXIBLE THINKING” INTO OUR LIVES?
“Simply” questioning situations with an amateur mind
Having the courage to look closely at people and thoughts that run counter to our ideas and beliefs.
Generating as many irrelevant ideas as possible and not labeling our ideas as "nonsense" or "bad"
When we realize that we are thinking too analytically, stop and give ourselves time; likewise, when we feel “stuck” on one thing, we turn our attention to something completely unrelated.
Taking time to rest and dream in an environment where we are away from all stimuli
